2026 REGULATIONS

Program and fees

The Anim sur le Lac Festival aims to promote and showcase animation cinema in all its forms. This celebration of animated films will feature nine screening sessions, a retrospective on an animation filmmaker, a workshop, and professional meetings. Five prizes will be awarded by a jury of professionals and by the public, for a total of approximately $6,000 in prizes.

The first edition of Anim sur le Lac will take place on August August 6 to 9, 2026, in Saint-Félicien, Lac-Saint-Jean.

A registration fee of $30 CAD is applicable before April 1, 2026 and $40 from April 1 until the end of the film call.

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

  • Read and accept the regulations.
  • Complete the registration form.
  • Pay the registration fee via PayPal.
  • Submit the form electronically. (A confirmation email will be sent to you.)

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS

  • The Festival will prioritize films made after January 1, 2025.
  • Submissions received after May 4, 2026, will not be considered.
  • Only short films of 30 minutes or less are eligible.
  • All animation categories are eligible, including narrative, documentary, and experimental animation.
  • Hybrid works (animation combined with another technique) are eligible if animation represents at least 80% of the work.
  • Works created using artificial intelligence are eligible.
  • Works that are exclusively promotional or educational in nature are not eligible.
  • Priority is given to works that have not been made freely available online.
  • Student works are eligible; there is a dedicated program for this category.
  • By submitting their work, the person responsible confirms that they hold all the necessary copyrights for the work to be screened at a film festival.
  • The person responsible for the submission must provide a link to view the work and a password if the link is protected. Links and passwords must remain active until September 1, 2026.
  • Films not completed at the time of submission may be considered if the viewing copy indicates a satisfactory state of progress and if the person responsible for the submission commits to completing and submitting the film before June 1, 2026.
  • The Festival reserves the right to accept late submissions if circumstances warrant.
  • The data provided during registration will be used in various publications and may be subject to translation and correction.
  • The requested information, including images, is used for the Festival’s communication materials.

SELECTION PROCESS

  • All participants will receive a response by mid-June 2026.
  • With the assistance of a selection committee (whose role is advisory), the official selection is made by the artistic directors. Films may be shown in these sections:
  • Regular Programs
  • Young Audience Program
  • Student Program (to be confirmed)

Anim sur le Lac festival is a competitive event. A jury of three members will view all films and award 5 prizes* at the awards ceremony including:

  • Best Animated Film
  • Best Student Film
  • Audience Choice Award (awarded by the audience)

*Additions to the above-listed prizes may be modified.

IF YOUR FILM IS SELECTED

  • Once the selection has been announced to the filmmakers, THE FILM CANNOT BE WITHDRAWN from the program.
  • The Festival reserves the right to use excerpts of selected works (max. 60 seconds), trailers, and film stills for strictly promotional purposes.
  • The Festival will pay royalties to the rights holders of Canadian films screened during the event.
  • As agreed with the film’s director, the Festival will pay royalties to the rights holders of all Canadian and international films screened outside the festival.

SCREENING COPIES

  • If your application is successful, you will find all the details regarding the screening copy in the selection letter.
  • The screening copy of a selected film must be received no later than June 30, 2026, in ProRes 422 HQ format.
  • Screening copies must be subtitled in French if the film’s language is not French. Please contact the Festival if this is a concern for you.

ATTENDING THE FESTIVAL

  • It is recommended that each selected film be represented by the filmmaker(s) or a member of their team during the event.
  • The Festival covers a certain number of nights’ accommodation for filmmakers whose films have been selected.
  • For international filmmakers (outside Quebec), the Festival can provide an official letter of invitation allowing them to apply for travel assistance from their respective institutions.
  • If their application is successful, our team will contact each selected filmmaker to provide information on accommodation and accreditation procedures.
